Determining the Isotopic Composition of Surface Water Vapor Flux From High‐Frequency Observations Using Flux‐Gradient and Keeling Plot Methods

چکیده

The isotopic composition of surface water vapor flux (δE) is a quantity frequently used to investigate the local and regional cycle. This study reports results comparative evaluation δE determined with Keeling plot flux-gradient methods using high-frequency data collected at cropland site lake site. Three regression models, ordinary least squares (OLS), York's solution (YS), geometric mean regression, were tested method. Results show that concentration-dependent field characterization measurement errors can improve estimation YS regression. For both sites, broad agreement was achieved among method OLS site, biased three models in reference calculated by Craig-Gordon (CG) model evaporation open water. Good aslo between CG under open-fetch conditions. A footprint analysis suggests may be less sensitive fetch than

Keith: Inferences from the Isotopic Composition of Water Vapor

Air may cross the tropical tropopause either by gradual ascent or in localized episodes associated with convection. While observations demonstrate that water vapor mixing ratios of air entering the tropical stratosphere are consistent with the mean tropical tropopause temperature, they do not resolve key mechanistic questions, such as the relative contribution of gradual or episodic transport, ...

Isotopic composition of stratospheric water vapor: Measurements and photochemistry

We present a photochemical model describing the changes in the isotopic composition of stratospheric water vapor that result from methane oxidation and reactions with O( ). We then compare model calculations with measurements made with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory far-infrared spectrometer during seven balloon flights that took place between 1989 and 1997. The agreement between the...

Isotopic composition of stratospheric water vapor: Implications for transport

We develop a series of models of transport in the upper tropical troposphere in order to explain the observed abundance and isotopic composition of stratospheric water vapor. We start with the Rayleigh fractionation process and add the effects of mixing and recirculation of stratospheric air through the upper troposphere. We compare our measurements with model calculations for a range of input ...

Understanding the Sahelian water budget through the isotopic composition of water vapor and precipitation

[1] The goal of this paper is to investigate the added value of water isotopic measurements to estimate the relative influence of large‐scale dynamics, convection, and land surface recycling on the Sahelian water budget. To this aim, we use isotope data in the lower tropospheric water vapor measured by the SCIAMACHY and TES satellite instruments and in situ precipitation data from the Global Ne...

A Review of Antarctic Surface Snow Isotopic Composition: Observations, Atmospheric Circulation, and Isotopic Modeling

A database of surface Antarctic snow isotopic composition is constructed using available measurements, with an estimate of data quality and local variability. Although more than 1000 locations are documented, the spatial coverage remains uneven with a majority of sites located in specific areas of East Antarctica. The database is used to analyze the spatial variations in snow isotopic compositi...
